bulk water pipeline and transport

Pipeline

With the completion of the bulk water pipeline by the City of Sitka, 2,500 feet of piping connects the penstock from Blue Lake to the ocean shore in Sawmill Cove.

Ship loading will be conducted at the new Gary Paxton Industrial Park deep water dock.

The head of the pipeline is capable of delivering 22,500 gallons of water per minute or approximately 32 million gallons per day.

Alaska bulk Water Inc will provide coordination of loading and permitting requirements. Each loading will require a “Water Loading Plan” which must be submitted to the City of Sitka at least 10 days prior to loading.
The deep water dock at the Gary Paxton Industrial Park is now complete.

Transport

There are four principle ways to move bulk water from Sitka to it’s destination.

1) Barge to hold potable water or load of containers on barge
2) Bulk bladder in shipping containers or ship lined hull
3) Tanker ship
4) Large nylon bladders towed
The use of a Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC) or Ultra Large Crude Carrier (ULCC) was made available due to a underwater piping system from the terminal head 1,500 feet to an area of the bay with sufficient water to accommodate the ships berth.

These carriers can carry between 70 to 100 million gallons of water per trip.

A leading research and development company Monohakobi Technology Institute (MTI) of Japan has been developing new technology in water-bag development. MTI’s water-bags are designed to carry high volumes of water, with lower investment and operational costs than using carriers. Extensive research and testing is continuing on the use of large bags for water transport.

Sitka’s GPIP Deep water port, in Silver Bay, an Ice free port, can handle VLCC ships.

can accomodate very large crude vessels
